How We Manage Removed Silt

Silt Containment & Dewatering

Aquaclear uses different containment and dewatering methods depending on the site, available space, ground conditions, and quantity of material being removed.

Dewatering Bags

Dewatering bags are suitable for areas of flat, even ground where there is sufficient space to deploy them. Custom-made bags can be produced in sizes up to 5m × 12m and are filled with silt-laden water before being left to drain naturally through their woven geotextile material. Multiple bags can be used simultaneously, allowing some to drain while others are being filled. Half-size bags measure 5m × 6m, while full-size bags measure 5m × 12m.

Geotextile Barriers

Geotextile barriers, also known as permeable membranes, are useful on uneven or sloping terrain where dewatering bags cannot easily be deployed. The barriers can be installed with a sloped surface behind which silt-laden water is pumped. As the water drains through the permeable material, the silt is trapped and consolidated for later removal.

Soil Bunds

Soil bunds can be formed using excavators near the water source to create a containment area for pumped silt and water. The trapped water gradually drains through the soil, leaving the silt to dry naturally. Once dry, the silt can be removed, reused, or left to green over, depending on the requirements of the site.
